Robin, the Last Survivor Rescued from a Meat Farm, Hesitates to Leave His Kennel, His Scars a Reminder of His Harrowing Past

Robin was the last of 50 dogs rescued from a dog slaughterhouse and meat farm in Yongin, South Korea. Unaware at the time, the moment he stepped out of his cage marked the beginning of a new life, despite the grim reality that dog meat is still consumed in certain regions of the world.

All animals subjected to cruelty by humans deserve to be treated with kindness and dignity.

“We partnered with animal rights groups in South Korea for this operation to ensure all 50 dogs were spared from euthanasia after the facility was shut down by the authorities.”

The dogs were discovered in barren metal cages, deprived of food and water. Collaborating with local enforcement, Humane Society International/Korea, LIFE, Korean K9 Rescue, and the Yongin Animal Care Association intervened to rescue all the animals.

The Taepyeong dog slaughterhouse, the largest in South Korea, was shut down in 2018, followed by the closure of the Gupo dog meat market in Busan in 2019.

In October 2020, Seoul’s mayor announced that the capital city was free from dog slaughter, while in 2019, the nation’s supreme court had already ruled against a dog farmer who used electrocution to kill dogs, citing a violation of the Animal Protection Act.

This ruling could have significant implications for an industry that predominantly uses electrocution as a method of killing. “Thank you to all the member organizations for your support!”
