For Ashley Boggs, a dedicated dog rescuer, saving canines is a lifelong mission. One day, while driving along a forest road in Puerto Rico, she spotted a distressed brown dog attempting to stop cars and begging for assistance.
A Canine in Distress
Unlike other strays that typically hide in the woods or wander aimlessly down busy roads, this particular dog was acting in a manner that suggested she was urgently trying to communicate something to Boggs!
Momma Dog Begging for Help
As Ashley exited her vehicle, she quickly realized that the dog was a nursing mother desperately seeking help for her newborn puppies. Abandoned in the woods without food or water, this brave canine was doing everything she could to protect her family.
Fortunately, Boggs, who works with Miracles for Satos Rescue from New York, arrived just in time to become their hero!
In addition to the mother dog, later named Goji, there were two other puppies hiding in the secluded area.
A Growing Concern
All three were friendly right from the start, and Boggs had no trouble securing them in her car. However, the cries of more puppies echoed from the wooded area, compelling her to investigate further.
Finally, Boggs discovered four additional puppies hiding near the box where they had been abandoned. This compassionate volunteer worked diligently until she managed to secure all seven of them in the back of her car.
The Berry Family Rescued Just in Time
Upon arriving at the facility, Boggs and the rest of the team ensured that this stray family received all the care they needed. They were hungry and in desperate need of a fresh start, and that’s exactly what they got!
Miracles for Satos Rescue is an organization dedicated to saving and transporting dogs from Puerto Rico to New York, helping them find forever homes. The puppies were incredibly fortunate to have been found by Boggs!
They were placed in a foster home where they began socializing with other dogs and learning essential puppy manners.
Goji, the mother, adapted seamlessly to her new circumstances, displaying the affection of the sweetest dog you could imagine!
A Loving Nature
“She is the absolute best dog. She adores every dog and person she encounters. She loves cuddles and will even perform tricks for treats,” the MFSR team shared on their Facebook page.
The rest of the puppies were named Raspberry, Blueberry, Gooseberry, Cloudberry, Blackberry, and Strawberry.
“We named them after berries because we found them in the bushes,” the MFSR team explained.
A Bright Future Ahead
Goji was finally in a safe environment where she no longer had to worry about her family’s well-being. Thanks to her caregivers, she lowered her guard and became the sweetest companion, focused solely on bringing joy to everyone around her.
“She loves going for walks, but her favorite spot in the world is on her favorite person’s lap. GOJI is definitely a volunteer favorite because she is an absolute sweetheart. She spreads joy every day,” the MFSR team noted.
Not long after their rescue, the Berry family found their forever homes, and they couldn’t be happier!
Once abandoned and left to fend for themselves in the wilderness, these adorable furballs are now thriving in their new lives!
