Many people instantly fall in love with dogs, but there are some who initially resist the idea.

Seven years ago, Rachael Rodrigues welcomed a charming Golden Retriever puppy named Oliver into her life. She was thrilled, yet somewhat apprehensive.

Her excitement was tinged with uncertainty about how to care for him, knowing her parents’ reservations about dogs.

Rachael explained to The Dodo: “My parents had always preferred cats and were hesitant about the additional responsibilities that come with a dog, like training, walking, and grooming.”

Nevertheless, she brought Oliver home, and surprisingly, her parents reacted positively.

The most remarkable part was her father’s immediate bond with Oliver, which blossomed into a deep and unique connection.

“Dad fell in love at first sight. He often carried Oliver around the house. The first week, when we thought Oliver had a tummy ache and couldn’t sleep, Dad lay on the floor with him under a blanket, soothing him throughout the night.”

Although he doesn’t like to admit it, Rachael’s dad has embraced Oliver as a true family member, much to Oliver’s delight.

Oliver means so much to him that he ensures Oliver is cozy with a blanket at nap time. This heartwarming routine before sleep is undoubtedly a precious sight.

“Since Oliver took over Dad’s pillow, Dad thought it best to tuck him in properly.”

Rachael’s father now affectionately wraps Oliver up, and although he never initially wanted a dog, Oliver has become his cherished companion.

Now, Oliver is considered Rachael’s father’s most beloved son, and their mutual affection is unmistakable.

It’s clear that no one can resist the charm of a dog! This dad’s perspective has completely transformed, and he’s found an unexpected best friend.
